How’s your new year going so far? Mine’s awesome!

On Friday, I stopped for lunch at a local restaurant and felt both heartened and inspired by a beautiful local woman in line. I’d complimented her shoes – told her they were “sassy,” and she smiled. She shared her perspective that at 70, she deserved it. Then she shared her disappointment that her Zumba class had been canceled that night. 70? Zumba? Scared of her!

“What’s your secret?” I asked her. She thought for a minute and then said, “Be forgiving.” What could I do but nod. So I did.

Now I’ve often heard folks invoke that karma is a bee-ach when wronged, fully expecting/confident that the transgressor will “get theirs.” Only once in my life (I’m not 70 but do have some mileage on me) have I heard anyone say, “I guess my chickens have come home to roost,” meaning wrongs done in the past have returned, possibly from past lives.

Karma = a bigger picture. True forgiveness, indeed, necessitates a bigger picture. Woe is me? Really? Take a bigger responsibility, a bigger inhalation, give a fuller exhalation. Then incorporate the insight. Set clearer, healthier boundaries. Forgiveness means releasing the negative feelings inside oneself – NOT allowing any continuing abuse or transgression.

Holding resentment is like swallowing poison and expecting someone else to suffer. Continuing to allow mistreatment is like marinating in poison and expecting to feel better. Knock it off. A group of professionals posed the question, “What does love mean?” to a group of 4 to 8 year olds. The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined:

The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman’s yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. When his mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, “Nothing, I just helped him cry.”

The planet Mercury has been in retrograde from 11/23/11 and will remain so until 12/13/11. The widespread concept of Mercury in retrograde encompasses slow downs, delays, muddled communication and similar matters. The often absent or downplayed aspect of Mercury in retrograde holds the promise of enjoyable growth during this phase. When Mercury is in retrograde, the accompanying heightened awareness and enhanced creativity lead to thoughtful, purposeful empowerment when we accentuate the positive. How? Here are some simple, easily incorporated suggestions:

1.  Take time at the beginning of the day to set your priorities carefully. Keep the to-do list short and sweet. Then it will be easier to be flexible if delays occur. Change is the only constant, you may as well accept and enjoy it.

2.  Multi-task less. Do one thing at a time, and pay full attention to it. Keeping focused helps the day go by more smoothly. Again, you’re in a better position to be flexible in the event of any changes.

3.  Pay attention to your surroundings as well as your internal cues. They’re likely connected. The more you honor your perception, the more accurate it becomes.

4.  Take time during the day to appreciate nature. Depending upon your location, either seasons are changing and nature is slowing down, or different foliage is blooming. Literally stop and smell the roses. Appreciating nature helps put things into perspective. Are those delays really that big a deal? Will the sun still rise tomorrow?

5.  Include creative expression in your day, or at least in your week, in ways that you enjoy. What do you enjoy creating? Music? Writings? Drawings? Carpentry? Crafts? Scent blends? A clean environment? A big mess? Whatever it is, honor it and spend time doing it.

6.  Take time at the end of the day to at least contemplate the day in review if not journal in gratitude for what you appreciate about the day. What did you love about it? What did you enjoy? What did you accomplish?

7.  Lastly, go to sleep with your mind at rest so that your sleep and dreamtime serve you best. If that means beginning your nighttime routine earlier, then do that. Even 10 minutes can make an appreciable difference.

This list is expanded from a previous post about Mercury retrograde, but is still not intended to be comprehensive. Keep track of the things that work for you. Additionally, all of these suggestions can certainly be helpful at any time. During Mercury retrograde, though, taking more attentive care to keep centered and focused in a proactive way is even more important.

Ok, everybody who grew up listening to Richard Pryor and/or my mom, shhh. Keep that answer to yourself. No need to say everything that comes to mind. Filter.

The time is NOW. Hasn’t it always been? Is it more NOW than it was before? How long will the omphalokepsis continue? (Use the dictionary or google it if necessary.)

It’s time to stop the finger pointing. Time to go within. Time to be quiet. Quiet enough to hear the stillness inside, feel the ever-increasing spark of Divinity, and allow it to burst into the flame of Divine Inspiration. Then take inspired action.

How? By taking the next step. Regardless of who you are or what that is, do it. Maybe for you it’s something as basic as wiping off the countertop. Make every action Divine. “Wax on, wax off.” Mr. Miyagi.

As we each take responsibility for our “stuff,” we evolve. In turn, so do our families, our communities, and ultimately our planet. Responsibility = the ability to respond. We cannot respond if we are reacting. Re-act = to act again, to do the same thing over and over and over, likely expecting different results. That, as we know, is the definition of insanity. If we are reacting, we are not in the NOW.

So breathe. Deeply. Clear the fear. Give gratitude and cheer. The NOW is here!

First of all, what’s Reiki? Plain and simply, Reiki is universal healing energy. Anyone may access and direct it. The important thing to remember is that you are a conduit for the energy. It is not your energy you’re using. Reiki treatments work well for stress management and spiritual development as well as for physical ailments.

During a Reiki Circle, energy is directed to one person at a time, from the rest of the participants. The receiver need only relax on the massage table or in a chair, and receive. The other participants allow universal healing energy to flow through their outstretched hands to the recipient. When that recipient’s turn is complete, then they get up and become a conduit for the next person, with the rest of the group. Simple.

The benefit of participating in a Reiki Circle:

1. You receive healing from multiple people at once.

2. It’s a wonderful opportunity for those who have Reiki training and desire experience & practice, as well as

3. for those unfamiliar with Reiki to gain experience feeling and allowing the energy to flow.

Hello! Guess what? No matter who you are, you can move forward more quickly and effectively by using your intuition to enhance your decision-making. How? Glad you asked.

            First of all, intuition has to do with following feelings rather than intellectual logic. Gut-feelings, inclinations, instincts, hunches, that kind of thing. Plenty of people use this type of input in their decision-making already – and not just psychics. For example, police officers often speak of their gut-instincts, detectives follow hunches, counselors use their instincts.

            What this means is that more than logic is taken into consideration when making an action or plan-oriented decision. The rest of the information isn’t necessarily measurable, but it can certainly be of service to you. “Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts.” – Albert Einstein

            Following one’s feelings, going with the flow, getting in touch with one’s gut-instincts requires the ability to perceive the moment accurately. Only when one is grounded in the present moment can one use intuition in decision-making. Then learning one’s own intuitive language becomes a helpful tool, and it can be incorporated into decision-making.

            Pay attention to the feelings you get when you’re about to make a decision. What was your first inclination? Did you subconsciously perceive a color around the situation? Did any part of your body tingle? Did you feel negatively or positively for no apparent reason? Did you experience physiological responses, like queasiness, shortness of breath, sneezing or a headache? Have you ever just not wanted to go somewhere, or wanted very strongly to go somewhere?

            All of those comprise examples of intuitive information, and can be incorporated into decision-making. Slow down when making your decisions and pay attention to how you feel about it. Not what you think, but rather how you feel. Keep a journal of your feelings. This process will help you get into the routine of noticing your feelings. Having a documented record will provide you with the information you need to draw your own personal correlations. Then you’ll be able to learn your own intuitive language.

            For example, if you felt like you didn’t want to go to the mall on Saturday, went anyway and got into a car accident – the next time you felt like you didn’t want to go somewhere you’d likely stay home or go somewhere else. If you have it documented, it will be more valid. Keep a record of your intuitions. The more you do it, the easier it will be to use your intuition in your decision-making. It’s time!
